What is LD 50?

For the AP Environmental Science exam, you should know the basic concept of what LD50 is and how it is used to measure the relative toxicity of a substance. Specifically, you should know that LD50 stands for "Lethal Dose 50%" and it is the dose of a substance required to kill 50% of a population of test subjects, usually animals such as mice or rats.
